Why not just learn grammar?
Grammar explains why a sentence works, but it does not make the words come out of your mouth in real time. Memorized sentences give you ready-made patterns you can reuse instantly, and the grammar sinks in from the examples.
How many sentences do you actually need?
Fewer than you think — a few hundred high-frequency sentences cover most everyday conversation. The point is to know them cold, with correct pronunciation, not to collect thousands.
How do you memorize them so they stick?
Hear the native audio, say it out loud, and space out the repetition. Numbered sentences and gapless audio let you loop and shadow a line until the whole thing is automatic.
